- Hello, I am a student in computer science at a university (North Carolina
- State University, in Raleigh NC) where C++ is taught as the beginning
- programming language. The book we are using it titled _Introduction
- to Object Oriented Programming in C++_ by Perry and Levin. I find this
- book to be very thorough, explains things well, one of the best textbooks
- I have ever used. It takes two semesters to learn all of C++. So far
- I think it is a success. I am almost through with the second semester
- and am now just about able to read and understand the posts written in
- C++ in this newsgroup pretty much.
-
- If I could just figure out what is the best C++ compiler and corresponding
- computer to get for the rest of my schoolwork I'll be in good shape. I
- hate sitting in the dumb computer lab. I'd much rather do my programs on my
- laptop wherever I may happen to be, or maybe I will break down and buy a
- desktop model for home.

- C++ is a more complicated language than Fortran (which I previously knew)
- but also has a lot more functionality. I like the classes and inheritance,
- etc. Right now I am a little worried though, because my husband's employer
- may transfer him to another state and I might have to transfer to a university
- where C++ is not taught at all, and C is only taught at a higher level.
- I may have to learn Modula-2, whatever that is. Sigh.
